If you don't use it.........

you'll lose it............

I could also add "if you don't write it down....you'll forget" to the title.

When I was a little girl these are the things I wanted to be when I grew up:

A Teacher

A Waitress

A Nurse

An Interior Designer

and an Actress

Little did I know then, that the first four on my list would be covered as soon as I got married and had children. Little did I know then as well, is how if you don't use your talents and gifts you start to loose them. Well, not forever, but for me, it takes a LOT more effort now to dig them out of the back closet of my mind that has been cluttered by the numerous new items...... the HAVE TO's.

I have pretty much decided that I will be darned (lighten the use of language...still a children's blog you know!) if I allow the busyness of life to quash the opportunities to be creative!

Unfortunately, if I don't write down at least half (ok, maybe ALL) of different imaginations I have, then it will COMPLETELY vanish from my mind!! Leah has been great for reminding me of such things....her "write it down now" comments to me come in quite handy; and even if I don't remember where I put such "remember me" sticky notes, at least I will have a nice "new" thought when I come across them months(years) later...hee hee!

I've never quite been the one to buy a costume completed. I really enjoy brain storming for creative ideas.......

This years costumes came together quite interesting............

Elizabeth wanted to be a Lion..........
{I should also add that if Leah doesn't DO some of the things on my mind then they might also not get done}

I know I have told you before she is an Animal lover! Her love for lions though became evident when she wanted to watch the Lion King a hundred times a day when she was Three! :)

Later Jillian expressed she would like to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.......

Well now, how coincidental that we have 2 of the 4 characters now unplanned from such story.......

Looks like a tin man and Scarecrow was a must on the "to do" list next..........

After finding Jillian's fabric at Hancock's for $3.00 and shoes at Target, Felt and poster board for Elizabeth's , I knew Tin Man would be my challenge!

My thinking:

Spray Paint a bday hat.......I found one already silver (hurray!)

All Grey clothing........had that in the closet...another hurray!

Silver face paint and hair spray......thought this would be an easy one......wrong! But found it! By the Way, it was really, really easy to come off in the shower....a bonus hurray!

silverface

But something was missing....hmmmmm.......had to have something on the body but what??? As I was at the party store I passed by silver table cloths....I thought to myself- is this going to look really stupid?? For $1.99 I thought it was worth the risk in trying......

Tin Man was done and on to the Scarecrow {which by the way was supposed to be Daddy while I sported the Wicked Witch look, but duty called in a place called Paris...Texas that is!}

my costume was completely thrown together last minute......

I always have burlap at the house, already had the rope, face paint, eyeliner, boots, just took some brown felt and made me a hat and then as I was shopping in Wetumpka with my sister-in- law Saturday afternoon (told you it was last minute!) at a flea market, I came across a booth that had this in it...........

straw

The girls had been begging me to buy some hay to stuff in my clothes, but the itching thought of it made me give up on that line of thinking.....until I saw this! God is good, because there was going to be no straw on this scarecrow until I saw this and He made 3 little girls happy! If you can't tell from the picture it is two grass table skirts.....

We were all done getting ready and set off to see the Wizard.....

It all came together pretty well and most of all the girls had a lot of fun and they really enjoyed the process of helping put it together and being creative in the process! This was just a little part of our weekend! Stay Tuned for the Weekend Recap still to come..........Happy Monday!

Okay, that is just too darn cute - love it! You are such a good sport for making the costumes AND joining in the dress-up. My little girl went as Dorothy, too. My son was Spiderman. :)
